Blog from Kevin O’Sullivan

As a long serving kayak instructor with Skerries Sea Scouts we took several groups to Buncrana in Donegal to the annual kayaking event called Cranafest.

The brainchild of Adrian Harkin and his team, it was a complete thrill from start to finish. With white water guaranteed due to the emptying of a reservoir every year in October it catered for all level of whitewater paddlers.

The highlight was an almost unimaginable night event over  a waterfall and over a rough stretch of water, under floodlights, and with commentary,  it became the high point of many a kayakers careers.
This was all due to Adrian’s indomitable spirit of adventure which permeated the event and which continues to this day with his latest project, despite him being severely compromised by MND.

I also had the privilege of Adrian coaching me while circumventing Malin Head during my own circumnavigation of Ireland back in 2019. He pulled out all the stops to ensure I made my dream a reality.

It behoves me to willingly return serve with his latest venture and endorse his efforts to fight this cruel disease.

Is neart na le chéile.
( Its better together)
